Castle Hill & The Strand

Castle Hill is an isolated granite outcrop which rises almost 300 metres above the central business district of Townsville. On the seaward side the foothills meet with pink granite bluffs which overlook the Strand foreshore. It is one of the most distinctive natural features on the Queensland coast, and remains an imposing backdrop to the heart of Townsville.

Cape Pallarenda & The Strand

Catch a stunning coastal view from Cape Pallarenda across Rowes Bay. Cape Pallarenda is located 10 klm north-east of Townsville. Cape Pallarenda scenic coastal park is the site of a former quarantine station for the port of Townsville. The original quarantine station was relocated here from Magnetic Island in 1915 and operated until 1973. The buildings are typical timber Queenslanders with high ceilings and wide verandas. Most are now used as offices for the Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service. Cape Pallarenda Conservation Park contains the remains of gun emplacements and search light towers built on the headland as defences during World War 2. On a clear day, you can see the Palm Group and Hinchinbrook Island.

Mount Stuart
2 hours duration. $250 for either one or two passengers.
Mount Stuart is located approximately 9 klm’s southwest of Townsville CBD. Its summit offers sweeping views of Townsville, Magnetic Island, Cleveland Bay and expansive plains to the west and south. The lookout is accessible via a well-maintained road that winds up the hill. At the summit simply enjoy the fresh air and tranquility or take in and photograph the scenery. Please note: no toilet facilities.

Billabong Sanctuary
1.5 hours duration. Drop off and return for pick up. $200 for either one or two passengers.
15 minutes south of Townsville is the 11 hectare sanctuary, featuring native animals. Open 9am to 4pm daily, except Christmas Day. One of the few places in the world where you can hold a koala. Please note - Sanctuary Entrance Fee not included.

Hervey’s Range Heritage Tea Rooms2.5 hours duration (to allow for refreshments). $300 for either one or two passengers.
The tea rooms sit atop Hervey Range, a 30 minute drive from Townsville. The Tea Rooms is a heritage listed property. The Tea Rooms serve breakfast and a delicious array of scones and sweets. A large variety of teas and coffee compliment the menu, including the infamous Kopi Luwak ($50/cup) coffee. Opening hours: 9am to 1pm everyday, except Tuesdays and Public Holidays when closed.
